We believe that for us to see the fulfillment of the Great Commandment lived out in every heart, home, and community; it requires a four-step process.
At the heart of our mission is the fulfillment of the Great Commandment: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37-39). We believe that for this command to be lived out in every heart, home, and community, it requires more than just intention - it requires intentional steps that guide us toward deeper love for God and others. This transformation is not immediate but is cultivated over time through a four-step process that shapes how we live, interact, and engage with the world around us.
Step 1: Deepening Personal Love for God (Heart)
The first step in fulfilling the Great Commandment is to cultivate a deep, personal love for God. This love begins in the heart and flows into every aspect of life. We must first come to know and experience God’s love for us, which empowers us to love Him in return (1 John 4:19).
Here's how this looks in action:
Personal devotion: We encourage you to develop your personal relationship with God through prayer, worship, and scripture reading.
Spiritual disciplines: We encourage you to develop spiritual disciplines such as fasting, meditation, and solitude to create space for God to speak and move in your heart.
Community engagement: As you grow in your love for God, you are equipped to be the hands and feet of Jesus within your community….Live it!
This step is foundational because our ability to love others flows directly from how we love God. A deep, personal connection with God transforms our hearts, enabling us to reflect His love to those around us.
Step 2: Building Authentic Relationships with Others (Soul)
The second step is fostering authentic relationships. The command to love our neighbors as ourselves requires that we truly know and care for those around us - not just in proximity but in heart. Jesus modeled this by investing deeply in relationships with those around Him, showing that love is not just an action but a way of being with others.
Here's how this looks in action:
Intentional community: Bar.Church creates spaces where people can build meaningful, supportive relationships. This could include small groups, mentorship programs, or fellowship events.
Listening and empathy: We will teach and encourage each other to listen actively and empathetically, reflecting the love of Christ through understanding and compassion.
Serving together: We will engage in acts of service that require cooperation and unity, whether it’s local outreach, global missions, or helping within the church body.
By prioritizing authentic relationships, we begin to fulfill the Great Commandment not only by loving God but by loving those He has placed in our lives with a genuine, selfless love.
Step 3: Strengthening Families and Homes (Home)
Our homes are the primary places where love for God and love for others are nurtured and demonstrated. Strengthening the family unit is crucial to seeing the Great Commandment lived out across generations. Families are where individuals are first taught to love, to serve, and to grow in their relationship with God.
Here's how this looks in action:
Family discipleship: We will encourage families to engage in regular times of worship, prayer, and Bible study together.
Building strong marriages: We will offer resources, counseling, and support to strengthen marriages as the foundation of strong, godly families.
Parenting with purpose: We will equip parents to disciple their children, teaching them to love God and others through both instruction and example.
When homes become places where love for God and others thrives, the impact is far-reaching, as these values are passed on to future generations, creating ripple effects in families, communities, and beyond.
Step 4: Transforming Communities through Action (Community)
The final step is seeing the love for God and others extend outward to our communities. As we grow in our relationship with God and others, we are called to go beyond the walls of the church and engage in acts of service, justice, and mercy that reflect the heart of God.
Here's how this looks in action:
Community outreach: We will mobilize the church to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the community through service projects and support for the marginalized.
Advocating for justice: We will actively work to address issues such as poverty, inequality, and injustice, reflecting the justice of God in the world.
Living as salt and light: We encourage each other to live out our faith in our workplaces, schools, and neighborhoods, being a witness to God’s love in everyday life (Matthew 5:13-16).
When we engage with the community in tangible ways, the love of God becomes visible, and hearts are transformed. As people encounter the love of Christ through our acts of service and compassion, they are drawn to Him, creating a ripple effect that expands His kingdom.
The Power of the Process
This four-step process of deepening personal love for God, building authentic relationships, strengthening homes, and transforming communities is not just a strategy - it’s a way of life. It’s a process that requires time, dedication, and the power of the Holy Spirit to guide and empower each step.
As we walk through this journey, we will see the fulfillment of the Great Commandment lived out in tangible ways, in every heart, home, and community, bringing the light of Christ to the world around us. Through this process, we will be a church that is not only passionate about loving God and others but is actively participating in the transformation of the world according to His will.
